A senior speech pathologist, from public to private…
WHAT GRP SPEECH PATHOLOGY OFFERS THAT OTHER EMPLOYERS DON’T:
As a private practice, GRP offers opportunities to shadow other clinicians, regular supervision, monthly meetings and social events! You have the opportunity to discuss your caseload in a non-judgemental environment, and do not feel pressured to meet a required number of clients sessions per day. This team allows for a great work-life balance with a supportive admin team and business owner at the helm. The team is always working to better their processes and improve clinician and client satisfaction, which is key when I look for strong work environments.
CLINICAL GROWTH AND SUPPORT
I have a great deal of experience working across public organisations, and GRP is the first private team I have worked with. I moved to try my hand at with clinical groups I have not worked with previously. GRP is always on top of forwarding online, free and other key PD opportunities, along with offering a budget for attendance if requested and deemed supportive of the role. We are offered regular PD in our monthly meetings, and this is a variation of NDIS knowledge, processes, and topics the team have discussed and raised as areas for improved knowledge. The support and clinical knowledge across the team acts to strongly increase growth for the clinicians working at GRP.
WORK LIFE BALANCE
The main benefit I have found working for GRP is that I can manage my work-life balance, and Gaby promotes this as a manager. You have the flexibility to discuss the number of days you would like to work, the hours on those days, and the number of clients you see. If you are a new grad, this means you can realistically balance your resource and admin time if needed, and this also helped me moving across from a largely adult based clinical background. You can always talk to Gaby and the admin team about your workload, and they are supportive of your needs.
GRP TEAM CULTURE
The team is a mixture of knowledge and experience, but also a great balance of fun and innovative members. Our monthly meetings and social events scheduled throughout the year really promote a great team culture at GRP. You get to know your colleagues even though you work quite autonomously through the week. Gabriella and the amazing admin team are key in facilitating and supporting that we are always linking and enjoying fun time together as a group, not just as colleagues in the work environment.
THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF MY JOB ARE:
Supporting clients and their carers towards their communication goals, big or small. I also enjoy assisting with the support of new staff into the team, it is always great to meet new members and offer the opportunity for them to shadow as I remember my first days as a new clinician in a new role.

From specialist to generalist…
WHAT GRP SPEECH PATHOLOGY OFFERS THAT OTHER EMPLOYERS DON’T?
GRP offers a supportive and flexible working environment, that truly places a focus on work-life balance. You are supported in every way, right from the detailed orientation, to the regular supervision and discussions around clients. I have never worked anywhere with such efficient processes including report templates and detailed procedures, that truly makes a difference to your ability to provide the best service possible. It is a company that not only allows, but also promotes growth across all areas and gives you the autonomy in managing your own workload with the support from the administration team to book and re-organise clients depending on your working hours.
CLINICAL GROWTH AND SUPPORT:
Having predominately worked in a private hospital environment, it was a significant change to work with such a diverse caseload in the community. In such a short time, I have gained so many new skills and expanded my knowledge, thanks to the guidance and support of the director Gabriella and the whole team, all who are happy to share their wisdom. It’s incredible to be able to access so many different professional development opportunities, with speakers both internal and external to GRP.
WORK LIFE BALANCE –
This is something that is really important to me and also a very large part of why I chose to work for GRP. You have the opportunity to discuss which days you would like to work, in addition to the hours you would like to work. The amazing administration team facilitate requests where possible to support you, while also making sure this does not impact on the care of the clients.
GRP TEAM CULTURE:
Something that I noticed straight away at GRP, is the amazing team culture. From my very first day, everyone has been incredibly supportive and welcoming. The team have such a wide and varied range of experience and everyone is happy to share their skills and knowledge to further develop others. The director, Gabriella, promotes team culture by organising activities including virtual team lunches, meditation and reflecting on individual wins during team meetings. This is something that is important to me as a clinician as it provides a greater enjoyment for the work I do!
THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF MY JOB ARE:
There are so many rewarding aspects, however I would have to say the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and their families is the most rewarding. I also find it so rewarding to see the positive changes in client’s function, whether it relates to swallowing or communication.

CLINICAL GROWTH AND SUPPORT:
As part of the GRP SP team, we are able to access weekly individualised mentoring and monthly professional development/case discussion opportunities which have enabled me to strengthen my clinical skills and reflect on my practise. The senior speech pathologists have also been an invaluable resource, imparting their diverse clinical knowledge and experience to help us provide quality evidence-based care to all our clients.
GRP TEAM CULTURE
The GRP SP team is made up of warm, approachable and enthusiastic speech pathologists who collaborate with one another to achieve optimal outcomes for clients.
WORK LIFE BALANCE
At GRP SP, we are able to choose the number of clients we see in a day and the number of days and hours we work in a week. This has allowed me to foster a healthy work life balance, giving me time to pursue other interests outside of speech pathology too.
WHAT GRP SPEECH PATHOLOGY OFFERS THAT OTHER EMPLOYERS DON’T:
GRP SP offers flexible working conditions in a friendly and supported environment and gives us the opportunity to expand our skillset in our clinical area of interest.
THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF MY JOB ARE:
GRP SP receives referrals from a diverse range of both adult and paediatric clients, many of whom have complex communication needs and have never had access to speech pathology services before. It has been so rewarding working with these clients to explore alternative and augmentative communication options to help them better express themselves and more actively participate in their community.

From paediatrics to adults…
CLINICAL GROWTH AND SUPPORT:
Its fantastic how the director provides 1:1 regular supervision, which is prioritised and consistently scheduled in. The director is also personally available and so approachable, so I feel comfortable asking questions when I need to. I have found the supervision extremely helpful in understanding how to assess and provide ongoing therapy for a variety of clients, because I lead the topics of the supervision, which means that I can access support in the areas I specifically need. GRP Speech Pathology has assisted my personal and professional development by giving me exposure me to a broad range of clients and clinical skills. I have particularly enhanced my skills and interest in assisting people with complex communication needs as well as providing dysphagia support within community settings.
GRP TEAM CULTURE :
While a mobile service, the GRP management and administration staff are responsive to questions, efficient and thorough. It is with ease and confidence that I know that the clients are being supported from an administrative perspective and that the team is working holistically. The team at GRP Speech Pathology is constantly being supported with online resources to share and operates as a welcoming team.
WORK LIFE BALANCE –
GRP Speech Pathology is flexible and can work around any busy schedule. I can work the hours that I request, and know that the administration team are working behind the scenes to accommodate my requests with clients, location and times.

A brilliant mother and clinician…
CLINICAL GROWTH AND SUPPORT: GRP Speech Pathology has assisted my personal and professional development by providing an excellent supervision structure, both formal and informal, which is guided by my clinical and structural questions.
GRP TEAM CULTURE: GRP has an amazing team culture which is led by the ever supportive, Gabriella. Clinicians enjoy exchanging ideas, research and therapy ideas. The administration team are always just a phone call away to answer any pressing questions too.
WORK LIFE BALANCE: GRP offers the flexible hours which can be tailored around Childcare and Kindergarten drops offs. This means as a working mum I get the best of both worlds in terms of engaging in a career I love whilst also being able to spend quality time with my family.
WHAT GRP SPEECH PATHOLOGY OFFERS THAT OTHER EMPLOYERS DON’T: Flexibility and support. Being a new graduate, I like the fact that I can choose how large my caseload is. This gives me the time to participate in supervision sessions, research evidence-based practices and organise resources in work hours rather than having to complete at home during all important family time.
THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF MY JOB ARE: Being able to assist a diverse range of participants and keep my professional skills current in multiple areas of practice.
